This is a typical sex exploitation film from the early 1930s - complete with wild parties, sex out of wedlock, lesbianism, etc. A chorus girl's exposure to the "casting couch" also exposes her to syphilis. Exploitation filmmakers hoped to capitalize on the taboo subjects of venereal disease, sex before marriage, lesbianism, etc. while skirting the Motion Picture Production Code of 1930 which forbade a film from containing such content. Films like this would tour the United States for...

Thanks to its imagination, costume designer, boldness and skillfulness W. W. Young film direction "Alice In Wonderland" is the best film adaptation of the Carroll's novel. It's a special delicacy: an early silent film masterpiece that every silent film fan shouldn't miss.

This film uses a childs curiosity about animals to convey its messages. Young Helen learns that she cleans herself just like her cat Kitty does. Unfortunately, Helen doesnt pick up on the fact the Kitty doesn't like to be groped by a room full of grimy school children. Films featuring animals and young children are usually as torturous to watch, as they were to make. The disembodied voice shows up a lively party and manages to make everybody feel bad about drinking by having them play the "National Drinking Game" - a quiz to help determine if a person is an alcoholic. NOTE - This clip has a complete film countdown along with a "china girl" (not a girl of Chinese origin, but a clip of an attractive girl used by film processors to ensure that colors - such as skin tones - are being accurately duplicated). The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1910) is the earliest surviving film version of L. Frank Baum's 1900 novel, made by the Selig Polyscope Company without Baum's direct input. It was created to fulfill a contractual obligation associated with Baum's personal bankruptcy caused by The Fairylogue and Radio-Plays, from which it was once thought to have been derived. It was partly based on the 1902 stage musical, though much of the film deals with the Wicked Witch of the West, who does not appear in the...
